Theme

This year’s 2021 Tennessee Communication Association theme is  Adapt and Adjust: Communicating in an Evolving World. The Covid-19 pandemic caused our daily interactions to change. As communication practitioners and scholars, we had to adapt and adjust the ways we communicate. When submitting ideas for panels, papers, and posters, please consider sharing your ideas on how the pandemic has caused a shift in the ways we communicate.

TCA prides itself for its support of student scholarship. Please pass this invite along to your students. Remember there are top student paper awards for undergraduate and graduate students. Please notate all student submissions as Undergraduate or Graduate student on cover page. Spring 2021 Conference is Virtual!

The TCA conference will be in an online format on March 26 and 27, 2021. Panels will be presented in Zoom. The film showcase will be made available for all to view. The call for papers, posters, student short films, and student papers deadline has been extended to February 15, 2021.

The conference is free this year. The membership fee is $25 for full-time faculty, $10 for adjunct faculty, $5 for students, and free to retired faculty. The membership fee is free to new members. Membership fees will pay for awards. I hope you will join us and invite your colleagues and students.

Please enter your students’ films in the Tennessee Communication Association Short Film Contest and Showcase by February 15, 2021. The categories are:

  • Commercials that are 30 – 60-seconds
  • Documentaries that are 10-minutes or less
  • Short films that are 10-minutes or less

Include a word document with a short synopsis, category, college or university, and a title for each submission. Also include contact information including the director and additional production personnel, an email address, and a phone number.  Label the document file with the same name as your video file/title.

The films will be screened and the films that are chosen for the Friday night film showcase will be entered in the contest. You will be notified if your film will be showcased. It is free to enter. The winners will be announced on Saturday and will be awarded cash prizes. All of the directors of the films in the showcase will be given a certificate of participation.

Please submit posters for display at the conference. All posters will be on display during the two-day conference. (Posters should be of the tri-fold variety so they can stand freely on display tables.) Please send a brief description including a title, institution represented, and brief abstract/summary of each poster to Patrick Richey, Patrick.Richey@mtsu.edu by February 15, 2021.

All methodologies are welcome and the top three graduate and undergraduate papers will be peer reviewed and published in the TCA Journal. Cash prizes are given to the top graduate and undergraduate paper.

Conference Moved to Spring 2021

Due to the uncertainty, we are changing the date for the TCA conference to March 26 and March 27, 2021. The conference will still be at Middle Tennessee State University.

2019 Conference Update

Remember the 2019 conference will be a regional conference with Kentucky and Tennessee Communication Associations. There is a change of date: September 20 and 21, 2019. It will be at Lake Barkley in Cadiz, KY. It would be good to make reservations at the park as soon as possible.
